SOLVED: Divi Builder Continuous Loading & Failing to Function Properly

In the past year or so I’ve had a problems here and there with the divi builder not loading or functioning so I’m able to use it properly. I tried everything from clearing my browser cache, web cache, and server cache and none of that seemed to help. I deactivated plugins and switched themes, didn’t work. I was getting really frustrated and was banging my head against a wall.

I was not able to properly use the Divi builder as you normally can. This problem with the divi builder seems to happen with almost every update too I’ve noticed.Β I recently found out what the problem was with Divi builder causing the non-functioning continuous loop.

I got a tip from a fellow developer ( Indikator Design ) in a forum and it worked beautifully! Problem solved. He even gave me a full explanation as to WHY this happens. Because we always want to know why right? So we can easily solve the problem or understand future problems.

Explanation: the “localStorage” has nothing to do with your browser cache or similar. This is a persistent cache on your hard disk. This is used by the developers of ET to store the backbone. js templates for better performance. The Page Builder uses these templates to display and manage the modules. After updates, errors may occur if new functions are needed but only old templates are available. Deleting the browser cache or closing and reopening it doesn’t help at all. But you should always connect deleting the localStorage with deleting your browser cache etc. However, always start with localStorage. – Bruno, Indikator Design

How To Fix Divi Back-End Continuous Loading

Keep in mind, your problem may or may not be the local storage. There is a method to debugging wordpress sites and that method should always be applied when trying to fix anything. ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR WEBSITE! Deactivate plugins, change theme to a standard wp theme, make certain you are running the latest version of everything, clear all caches, make certain you weren’t hacked, etc..etc…

Method 1

  1. Make certain you are using a developer tools extension in your browser (this tutorial uses chrome dev tools)
  2. Do an inspect on either the back end or front end of the website that is having problem. Doesn’t matter.
  3. Click the “application” Tab
  4. Find “Local Storage” on the left
  5. Click drop down and right click choosing to “clear” the local storage memory

Method 2

  1. Make certain you are using a developer tools extension in your browser (this tutorial uses chrome dev tools)
  2. Do an inspect on either the back end or front end of the website that is having problem. Doesn’t matter.
  3. Locate the console tab
  4. Use command:Β localStorage.clear();

  1. Make certain you are using a developer tools extension in your browser (this tutorial uses chrome dev tools)
  2. Do an inspect on either the back end or front end of the website that is having problem. Doesn’t matter.
  3. Choose application tab
  4. Find “Clear Storage” text with little trash icon
  5. scroll down and make certain “local and session storage” is checked
  6. Click button to “clear all site data”

    I have tried these and still no luck… probably me though, I am definitely not professional. Right now, none of the “settings” tabs seem to be working anywhere on the entire site, it is very frustrating because the site was working fine a few days ago… I thought it was my API with elegant themes but all of that has been updated along with divi, divi builder, and even chrome.

      Josh, I’m sorry you’re having problems and that clearing your local storage didn’t help. Have you tried disabling all your plugins to check for a conflict? Have you tried making sure to clear all caches, included cache files in your server via FTP? Feel free to email me if you need to some help.

      I solved it with the Developer Tools, using method 1) .

      It was not loading on the backend, and did not get the controls to appear on the front-end.

      this is happening on my PC, but on MAC, I never have that problem.

    I’ve tried some of these options. I can get the visual builder to work but not when I’m on the back end.

    I the laoder shows up but nothing is happening.
    Any idea?

      Have you tried disabling all your caching plugins in wordpress? But follow up also with making sure to clear the database AND remove all the file and code injections made by the plugin. Then go and clear you cache on the server level if possible. Use an incognito window and then clean your machine cache again (the directions in your post) and see if it’s not working then. ALSO, make sure you’re using the LATEST version of Divi. As I’ve not seen this problem anymore as of yet.

    i m using wordpress and divi theme., i cant upload my logo, i clicked divi-theme options , but there my logo upload button is not active, i cleared those things as u mentioned above and also downloaded plupload fix, but still it is not working, i us 64 bit windows 10, browser chrome, can u pls help me, i ve stucked with this many days

      This sounds like one of those times you may have to hire a professional to fix it fo your. I suggest making sure everything is updated, that you are on a good hosting environment for wordpress and clear ALL your caches. Deactivate ALL your plugins and check again to see if it works.

    Some good tips to try, but unfortunately neither this or the wpconfig fixes worked for Divi’s pre-made layouts endlessly loading.

    What fixed it for me was increasing the upload size through the php config in my hosting’s cPanel, because it turns out that my WordPress was limited to 2MB files! (you can check it in Media>Add New on WP Dashboard) Causing endless loading since presumably it couldn’t install the files from the Elegant Themes cloud.

    So I increased the upload file size to 64MB which fixed it. πŸ™‚

    Thank you for this, but I think I might have a problem a little larger than this. On only one page of my site the visual builder won’t load. When I inspect the page I’m getting a js error (and js just confuses the hell out of me). Can you help out? This is what I’m seeing:

    I think it has to do with the fact that I placed a mail chimp native optic in form alongside a divi option box, and it’s confusing the visual loader on the back end. I’m not sure though. Help?

      Does it work when you deactivate that mail chimp plugin? If so, there is an incompatibility with the plugin and the builder. If not, deactivate all your plugins and see if the builder does or doesn’t work when all your plugins are off. If it works fine, you’ll have to deduce which plugin is causing the incompatibility. If it doesn’t work, try checking your php versions, your WP versions, divi versions, change the child theme. ETC…It’s a lot of debugging to figure out the problem. But you’ll figure it out eventually. If not, you can always hire someone to fix it.

    Yay! I’ve been having issues with my WIP Divi-powered portfolio for weeks! Everything was working fine until I updated to WP5.1 and the latest theme update. After then, I was unable to any of the pages as the entire page when blank when I tried to edit settings on any module…

    I tried clearing caches, disabling plugins, disabling Chrome extensions, clearing server cache, and disabling Cloudflare – but nothing worked! πŸ™ I was at the stage where I was seriously considering reworking the site with another theme!

    BUT – the bit above about clearing the local storage has bloody worked!! πŸ˜€ Thank you for sharing this fix! πŸ™‚

    One issue I found with a hosting company that may cause your problem isthe hosting plan.
    My hosting play is 512MB and 1 processor.
    As soon as I upgraded to 1G ram and 2 processors, the problem went away.
    It was not a plugin this time.

    If you host with godaddy you have to get the ultimate hosting, the economy and deluxe are not enough and I keep running into this problem.
    So, make sure you have at least 1G of ram and 2 processors if you plan to run the divi theme.
    Here is the the error I get

    Load of global defaults has failed
    An error has occurred while loading the Global History States. Various problems can cause a save to fail, such as a lack of server resources, firewall blockages or plugin conflicts or server misconfiguration. You can try loading again by clicking Try Again.

    This is because you only have 512MB of ram and 1 processor.
    Check this before you go with a hosting plan.

      Sorted issue with method 1. Elegant themes support had me turn everything off.. Remove scripts and css…

    Hi there

    Just wanted to say thanks for posting this solution. After moving webhost and working through the usual fixes including upping PHP limits, nothing worked.

    Elegant themes thought it was something to do with my htaccess file, but I reset that to default and still no luck.

    After doing the above thingd (not sure which on did it) it’s all fixed now. So just wanted to say thanks, and hopefully if someone has the same problem, this helps them out.

    I was able to go to Divi > Theme Options > Builder > Set Static CSS File Generation to disabled. I hope this helps.

    Finally a solution – thank you!! Been struggling with this issue for a couple of months. Only had the problem when my permalinks were set to anything except “plain” (and who wants plain permalinks?).
